We just had yet another round of layoffs at the company I work for. Luckily for me I have avoided the cuts like a cockroach again but some of the people I have had a great time working with, and learned a lot from, have gone. It’s a little surreal and some I simply didn’t see it coming. Some really great creatives gone and people who I looked up to for leadership and inspiration cut. It always lingers at the back of your mind “Where are they going and what are they going to do now?”. I know many of them will easily find jobs being as good as they are. Some of them I kind of hope they set up their own thing and take on the larger agencies that have now let them down. Some of them I hope make a mark doing something else they never had the time to do till now.
Ironically I found this video the day after the layoffs and it struck a chord. I often wonder when my job will end, either by choice or not, but more importantly what will I do next. There has to be a next right? what if that next is really what I should be doing anyway? What if the next is something where I can really make my mark? Why am I waiting? I guess the answer to that is we all have bills to pay :\
